NOT BILL GATES
AP - 48 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - Robert Gates, the White House choice to be the next defense secretary, conceded Tuesday that the United States is not winning the war in Iraq and warned that if that country is not stabilized in the next year or two it could lead to a "regional conflagration."
this could be huge. coming from the new sec. of defense.
not an alarming discovery for me, but to publicly admit it, could have a negative effect on our economy - short term.
whats your take?

Well, if he admits everything that the democrats have been saying for the last year or so, that will in effect shut them up. I believe he also stated today that the Whitehouse should be open to input on Iraq from all sources, which in effect puts the onus on the Democrats to come up with their plan for winning. By the time the Presidential election rolls around the GOP hopes to have plenty of ammo to throw at the Democratic nominee.
I don't think there is much that can happen in Iraq that isn't already priced into the market, it's all just political jockying at this point.

Coming from an old skool spook this gives me a laugh ...
The question is essentially irrelevant since it doesn't ask deeper questions and is framed pointlessly, and comes from a man who doesn't give a sh*t about real people anyway. (what does "winning" mean anyway? who's definition should we measure it by? what about overall deaths or how much every civilian's taxes has been allocated for this war?)
These high up spooks are in the ultimate position to double dip- making plenty of green playing one side off another, speaking in global terms. The military defense industry VS the "bad guys". Intellegence is the world between "us" & 'them", the Fence you might say... deep insiders not only see it all, a few are in keys positions to also manipulate it by building relationships with finacial sectors on both sides and profit greatly off of it. Patriotism and nationality be damned.
Gates even being considered for this nomination is a great joke, on us. It's Bush Sr. world of overt corruption 1980's style all over again ....
