I spoke to the folks who manage my properties on Maui and there was a lot of shaking and the power went out in Napili for a while, and they closed the west Maui airport for a time, I don't know about Kahului. I even heard people felt it in Honolulu which is much further away.

Biggest Quake for the islands since 89, lucky there wasn't a sunami.

the quake could still be manageable. but if you're speaking of tsunami, this is something that hawaii should be most prepared. it's a little island, it's kinda scary.

From what I understand of Tsunami's, they are not normally considered a threat from quakes originating around Hawaii due to the depth of the quake and the magnitude, a 7.0 or greater is considered a minimum to generate one and at a depth where the sea floor actually lifts upwards.

They would have been fine anyway, - they all would have just surfed the tsunami's that came in.8)
