I have reset the trading simulator for October - the prize for winning is a great trading book. The winner will also have his win displayed under his name in the forum.
If you already played in previous competitions, you already have an account and your can join the October contest with the same username and password by going here (http://vse.marketwatch.com/Game/StartViewGame.aspx?id=OTFsimulator). If you have forgotton the game password, which you need to join the October contest, just email me and I will send it to you. (http://www.onlinetradersforum.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=1)
If you are new to the simulator, you can join at anytime. This thread will be used to discuss the game and post updates on the standings.
You start with $100,000 and you can trade stocks long or short. You can only trade stocks above $2.00. Whoever has the highest amount at the close of trading on Monday, October 31, 2011, wins.
The trading simulator/contest is open only to registered members of this forum. (Registering is free!) (http://www.onlinetradersforum.com/register.php)
Send me a private message (http://www.onlinetradersforum.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=1) and I will send you the link and password for your free sign up.

MarketWatch seems to be switching over to a new platform - sometimes I can log in to the old one, sometimes into the new one. I will post results from both when I can.

I'll just start on the new one today. Don't worry about switching over my old results.

I think VSE/ Marketwatch lags in updating. I show a gain of 55.3 % today when I log into my account and an acct of $155k. Maybe working out the bugs or perhaps I am missing something?

Yeah its probably bugs...it shows 155k on your profile but 143k in the rankings...
I was reading into your transactions and you have 100+ in a single trade day...what platform/website/software do you use?
BTW im Rten on the simulator...

I don't use any. All of my trades are based on patterns or trends I see (or think I see), some charting, market news and movement, and ideas I get from this website and other places. It works better for me because it makes me think about what I am doing and I stay on top of it better. Also, I would never trade 100x in a single day in my real money account. But as I am in front of a computer for hours on most days watching my own account, making 100 trades that day was just a fun experiment.

Try clearing your browser's cache, then quitting your browser and relaunching it. It was happening to me also, but now I never get the old one showing up.

The way I see it, I am really winning, if you look at the average gain per trade....

Is anyone else having trouble w/ the game this morning? It let me make a few buys at the open then bumped me out and won't let me back in.

Whatever you are doing, you are one hellava trader.
You belong on Wall Street working for some firm.
Or maybe start your own firm.
Congratulations, on doing an outstanding job.

Thanks. I'm waiting for Bosnian to open a hedge fund and maybe hire me to be a small part of his trading team. He has way more wins in this game than I do.

The first day it was just high frequency trading, looking for a pattern in a stock or two and trying to trade it enough to make some gains. I also look for low volume stocks with a large bid/ ask spread, although that has backfired a time or two.
I try to find some stocks in the news with a large move one way or another. Sometimes one of those will follow a pattern for a while that you can trade. I did this with MOBI from 17 down to 4 for a few months. It's worked for me lately.

Haha, I wish someone would write me a check for all my VSE Winnings, I am thinking Thierry Martin. HedgeFund is still a couple decades away, I am sure you can open one before me.
But you are doing one hell of a job, in the VSE Ringer. All that bell ringing must be working.

Also thierry. I wonder if you would incorporate penny stocks into the contest too, and lower the price from $2.00 Minimum to 0.00. I think it would make the contest a lot more fun.

I could do a separate contest, it wouldn't be fair to include both kinds of stocks. Or maybe it would. I don't know. Anyone else?

The only problem with separating it is, that then you will have 2 monthly winners?

No, we will have a separate contest for the penny stocks. Two contests, each with a winner.

The only reason, I suggested this was so that we can have more active people playing, because right now this contest is lacking in players. Separating the contests each while having 5 players playing in each, is worse than having 10 players playing in one. That's just my opinion.

OK, I'll set the November contest to include any price stock.
