I have reset the trading simulator for February - the prize for winning is a great trading book. The winner will also have his win displayed under his name in the forum.

If you already played in previous competitions, you already have an account and your can join the February contest with the same username and password by going here (http://vse.marketwatch.com/Game/StartViewGame.aspx?id=OnlineTradersForum). If you have forgotton the game password, which you need to join the February contest, just email me and I will send it to you. (http://www.onlinetradersforum.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=1)

If you are new to the simulator, you can join at anytime. This thread will be used to discuss the game and post updates on the standings.

You start with $100,000 and you can trade stocks long or short. You can only trade stocks above $2.00. Whoever has the highest amount at the close of trading on Friday, February 26, 2010, wins.

The trading simulator/contest is open only to registered members of this forum. (Registering is free!) (http://www.onlinetradersforum.com/register.php)

Send me a private message (http://www.onlinetradersforum.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=1) and I will send you the link and password for your free sign up.

Thanks Thierry for putting the time and effort into this contest for us, I appreciate it for sure. It is a great tool to test some strategies without having to actually loose the money if that is the direction it goes. Looks like that dirt bike riding nut strategy worked today. Now if I can just pull in 13.89% in one day in the real world I would be happy.

When something like that happens you should contact VSE and let them know, sometimes they can fix it.

I'll stick with my saying "Even A Blind Dog Finds A Bone Sooner Or Later"
I need to be somewhat conservative at this point and see if I can hang on to it. I usually take a big risk for a big gain and dont get it. Whats funny is I think the luck factor on mine is much higher. I was looking over "Roberts" trading and there is way more strategy to what he is doing.

Nice pick Doublereed.

I'm proud of your progress bro.

Motocrossnut, cmon buddy make a few more trades your risky man you!!

Excited to see how this month turns out if people keep trading and don't sit on gains.

I was down 7% at one point today but due to my favorite little trick...(Dollar Cost averaging) I got back to even and gained a litte but wow WHAT A RIDE.....

I am not done yet stripe, just been real busy at the office so I am not wanting to just make quick trades just to make them. I had the wind taken out of my sails a little when the stock that cost me $6300 bucks of real money in two days brought doublereed $80,000 in a contest. We still have 15 days.

Pretty much the only way to win these things is to go all in on a stock that has decent potential. Every other month I've tried to actually trade and made 10-20 percent over the month, but there was always one guy that loaded up on one stock and when I tried to catch up with them I'd end up losing my gains.

This works out a lot better! Now I can sit back and relax until someone else gets close to me.

Doublereed,

Technically you could sit back and win the simulator with your 79% gain on two trades. However that wouldn't be much of an accomplishment. I think the true way to show your skill is to win it with a number of quality trades. The month I had 35% returns and above I traded at least 8 different stocks in at least 15 different trades.

Just my two cents. Will 79% win the simulator...most likely..but is it an impressive win if you sit on it in the second week of the month not really.

Just my opinion others welcome.

RedStripe, you get a lot of shit here in the forum but I have never read a single negative comment about you towards any other person; something a lot of people do here. This is something I respect a lot about you. Since everyone posts the negative, just wanted to state the positive :top:

To me the simulator is a way to test different strategies without using real money. It's not about winning the contest for me, it's about staying in the green and not losing money. I don't have the amount of money available in the simulator... so I try to have fun with it :) I am not even trading in real life. I am an architect, I check up on this stuff once in a while, it is a hobby, perhaps something for when I am out of work (construction has come to a halt over here). I'm too nervous to invest with real money until I learn something about stocks, which is what I use the simulator for, as learning experience to later translate into real money, hopefully! Although the lack of emotion using play money makes it a lot easier to trade :sheep:

Right now I'm in the red... so I see I did something wrong and will try to correct it for the future. But I'm relaxed... hehe. In real life right now, I would maybe be sweating a bit :santaclaus:. But whatever, I'll let it run and see what happens when I get home later on today :rolleyes2:

Thanks Robert. Means a lot to me I'm just here to help others and learn myself. This forum shouldn't be a place to insult people(leave that for the playground) it should be a place to share trading/investing ideas and learn from eachother. That will continue to be my goal. Thanks for the kind words.

Maybe so in real life. If I was up 79% in real time I'd take a vacation too. But being a contest proof of true trading sucess is consistent winning trades not one big win off a drug play.

Also it makes the contest more fun. I'm not one to risk it all simulated or real to get the 79% I'd rather slowly work my way to 20-30% for the month $1,000 is nice right ??? :)

Nice win doublereed, amazing that you were up over 120% at one point, especially with the number of trades you made.
