OnlineTradersForum.com Stock Picking Challenge

Pick the highest percentage mover and your win will be recorded next to your name in the forum.

Choose any stock that trades in the US market that closed at $2.00 or over with at least 100,000 share volume as of the Friday close before the contest starts on Monday.

Your entry price will be the market open price on Monday.

If trading is halted for your pick at the market open on the first day of the contest or at the market close on the last day of the contest your pick is disqualified. The stock must be buyable at the market open and sellable at the market close.

A brief rationale for your pick makes the contest more fun.

This week we are awarding a prize for first place - the winner gets a trading course on CDRom from our sponsor at Ino TV (http://www.ino.com/info/260/CD28/&dp=0&l=0&campaignid=9) - "Pattern Probability Used in a Unified System" by Curtis Arnold. Good luck!

I'll just take the opposite of whatever Redstripe picks again this week.

He got wayyy lucky this past week!!!

In the meantime, the Wonder stock picking service keeps on trucking with a YTD account balance of $7400 if you had just started with $1k, and traded his picks each week, carrying the total balance over to the new pick each week.

I challenge anyone to show me a picking service out there on stocks with this kind of documented returns for the year so far!!!!

Still researching my pick but If you look at the chart. You would have seen based on price action that 2 weeks ago VRMLQ was a short and this week it was a buy and this week it is setting up to be a short again. It's a great trading tool.

I would be picking VRMLQ short, but since volume missed by a couple thousand shares i can't so stay tuned for my pick.

Also I'd like to say a congrats to Wonder for his consitent winning picks. However Florida I think an analysis of my picks vs. his for the past 2 month would be beneficial and you would see that we are close and I think mine have returned a higher percentage but either way we are both averaging above 10% per week. :)

Based on the charts, it was exactly the opposite, with a long being favored 2 weeks ago, and a short being favored this past week. BUT, and that is a big BUT, charts on equities that trade with the volume of VRMLQ mean little if anything, and should never be traded for more than a day trade at most.

As for the comparisons with Wonder, since you started picking, you are actually at 104.7% (8% per week), vs. Wonder's 104.4%, but of course, this includes your controversial 36% gain on EMGE that was halted and the position could not be closed at the end of the contest week.

LOL!!! Yea, I am now.

Last week was my maiden voyage in this, and that turned out pretty bad. Embarrassing would be the correct word. So I'm off to a great start in just two short weeks!

No wonder I can't do this for a living, I suck!

Going long is simply when you buy a stock thinking it will go higher..

The oposite is going short which means you're borrowing shares of a stock (behind the scenes) to sell on the open market. You collect the cash but you owe shares back at a later time. You make money when the share price goes down because you can buy it back for cheaper than you sold it for.

Long means the stock is going to rise, Short means it's going to fall.

No, actually bigzip has the highest return with 122.2% if you look at only picks since you started. You are in second, if you really want to claim that 36% gain on EMGE.

So when are you going to make your pick, so I will know what I have for the week?

I am done trading myself for the year, and am just hanging around to harass RedStripe!!

I thought going long was buying a stock and holding it for along time hoping it would go up.

So in this case, Bama nations THC Long should be held until Friday right?

Hey, join the club!! I haven't gotten into the Challenge, but my first couple buys were on Friday, October 23rd with CLNE at 13.51 and BQI at 1.52.

That hurt!!

Now I'm definitely watching some of the guys on here for their picks. I'd also be curious to see what Wonder's "2nd pick" would be if his first pick is a short.

long or short can have many meanings. For instance, long means buying a stock and it also means an extended time-frame of anticipated holding of that stock. Long for me is anything over 1 day while others may feel they are holding for a short time-frame for anything that isn't held for 1 year.

I just want to point something out here. Though some picks and/or persons performance with their picks in these weekly challenges work out well or often work out well does not really constitute sound investment advice. I know that most of my picks take about 3-5 minutes of research to decide on, and most are of a risk factor I wouldn't accept in my actual trading. For instance I would never advocate holding a 3x leveraged fund for a week with no way to get out of it.

The majority of winning picks are based off assuming a high risk position and hoping it pans out. While some may be picks that myself or others are actually planning on trading or currently trading, most would have stops in place and utilize a risk management plan to minimize losses if we are wrong.

This is only one week, and a anomaly I am sure. Your record speaks for itself. I'm just a lucky rookie, nothing more.

Understand on the vendetta, I have one too, different company, but I understand. I would never buy them long either. I would take pleasure in making money shorting them though.

I just sold my position about 10 minutes ago. Looking at the charts for the past few days the stock seems to run up to its high of the day around the 10am-10:30 time frame. The DOW seems to be running today so the stock may go higher, but I decided to take my profits.
