Hello! I am new to the forum and this article was great to find. I am working on a trading system and have been looking for information on different systems. Does anyone have an books they could recommend that discusses or reviews different systems. Has anyone read these books, I found them on sale online but since I can not look at them, not sure they are any good. Developing a winning system for trading by Tim Cho and The systematic Trader, Mazimize trading system by David Stendahl. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I've never used or built a stock trading system, as I'm not familiar with the trading platforms that allow for such trading.

Is there some sort of popular software or trading platform that allows for automated trading via a system?

I'm only familiar with system trading in the fx market, and I'm most comfortable with it there because it is so deep and liquid, and much more continuous than equities in general. FX is easy, however, system wise, as the MT4 platform gives you the opportunity to code your indicators into an auto trading platform and then demo test it, all for free.

I've never coded a system myself, even on FX, but I'm working on coding one using the Parabolic SAR indicator as its primary trade trigger. If anyone has any experience with this parameter in equity or derivatives trading, I'd love to hear about it,

Best Regards,
MIKE

That must have been some journey that made FX "easy" "deep and liquid" but left you without experience in stock trading systems. I'm betting that you actual have experience trading stocks, but just haven't tried to create a 'system' from your experience.

So, how did you decide to start into creating a stock trading system? And what brought you to the parabolic SAR as the first indicator you wanted to include?

Well, FX trading is by no means easy in and of itself, but the programming for the trading platforms is easy, very straightforward, is what I meant. I'm no stranger to the stresses of trading, even system trading...

And I have plenty of experience trading stock, moreso with options recently, but I enjoy forex for the reasons I mentioned in my previous post.

I am looking to incorporate Parabolic SAR because I have found it to be a robust indicator in the exchange markets, and would like to see if this holds true in equities as well. The only way to find out is test, test, test..!

I really don't know where to start, though, as far as coding a system for stock trading - meaning, a fully automated system, like you can get easily with forex, any thoughts?

Parabolic lags for my tastes. I've combo'd it with ocilators and MAs to no real edge.

Forex....to some degree yes, but not with stocks. At least not with stocks with the volatility and range required...too many better "edges" beyond par SAR.

TS still probably the best system to automate strategies.

For Interactive Brokers......maybe take a look at this......

L,

I got into this in the 90's. Spent tons on trading systems books and bucho sw.

If I get the time in the next month or 2, I'll send you a list of books on trading sys dev. Its fun but you HAVE to have the time to dev it and then test it. Prob is, for a sys to work well, it must be robust and to do that it must be as simple as possible. It depends on the market and the item being followed. A sys might work on certain type stocks/commodities for awhile but when market conditions change, the trading sys may not follow.

Just some notes for you.

Good luck

Rick
