Hi, can someone PLEASE point me in the right :arrow: direction for a reliable real-time quote provider? I am currently using yahoo's, good price but the java generated page hangs up a lot and i can see where that might give me some real problems in the future. I've been viewing this site off and on for about 4 months now and have read and learned lots from some of you regulars. Thanks for your time, knowledge and help...

You get complimentary real-time quotes when you open an account at a broker, such as Scottrade, E-trade, Merril, etc.

Luc1, yes on the broker, no on having real-time quotes. That's why I signed up with Yahoo. (I prefer not to mention the broker)

Albert, after more research, I am finding out that yes, most brokers do provide real-time complimentary and some don't, I just happened to choose one who doesn't.

I plan on changing brokers anyhow and if any of you have minute to tell me who your broker is and a brief why or not, I would be most grateful.

But here is a good place to start. There is also a forum on trading software which may be of value as well.

Good luck on your search. A backup brokerage is always a good idea.

Thanks again for all the help. In my search for a site that gives Real-Time quotes, I was able to locate a site here in Brazil :arrow: ADVFN (http://br.advfn.com/). For $10 I bought the bronze package which gives me just about everything necessary and then some, imLIMITEDo. The site tools are too many for me to list. And for those of you who are following Bovespa out of Brazil, Real-Time is included in the bronze package. Today was my first day using them, I have to admit, I am impressed with all the goodies that are included for the price. Did I mention that it only costs TEN DOLLARS.... :lol:

Luc1, I followed your advice on a back up broker and even they want $25 for real-time quotes or 20 something trades per month... As for myself, I really need to keep my overhead low during this learning experience. Thanks again for the advice. :cool:

maybe got a little off topic in my verbiage. Second broker more appropriate for this thread. If you get to a point where you can fund two different accounts, it will allow you to fully test one while your comfortable with another and expanding your horizons (futures, forex etc.) . For example, one brokerage that covers your IRAs, mutual funds etc, and another for trading, or possibly two platforms (E signal / Tradestation/Ninja trader etc.)

Or.......quotetracker with feeds from 2 different brokers.

Should have stated a second broker as opposed to backup in this case. Sorry for the confusion.

Luc1, I opened the program you suggested and saw that they have quite the list for real-time providers :cool:, even has ADVFN (FR & UK). I sent an email to Jerry asking if it would be possible to add one more ADVFN (BR), unfortunately the answer was no, for a reasons I can accept :roll:. I am now aware of an abundance of providers and should have no problem choosing one. I'll be looking forward to putting the program to work.

I recently found that if you sign into msn money (http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Common/FreeCharting.aspx) you can receive real time quotes from NYSE free. I think it's a great way to save money and at the same time, become familiar with some of the terminology and technicals necessary for trading. As a beginner myself, I feel that this would have been nice to use during my first couple months. I'm still pretty fond of Yahoos real time, the price paid is still a good deal, considering the extras you receive. In my searchings I am finding better providers, but of course, along with better comes bigger prices. As my assets grow, so will my overhead. To a degree... :p
